Tajik president calls for increased aid to Afghans

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Tajikistan president has renewed his call for increased humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan.

Asia Plus quoted Emomali Rahmon as underlining the need for stepping up aid to the people of Afghanistan at a meeting with Tomas Niklasson, EU’s special envoy to Afghanistan in Dushanbe on Friday.

The two sides discussed the current political, military and socioeconomic situation in Afghanistan, which directly affects the security environment in the region.

Rahmon voiced his concern at the growing threat of international terrorism, extremism, transnational organised crime, drug trafficking and cybercrime.

He also stressed the significance of enhanced cooperation between Tajikistan and international partners in dealing with such threats.
