FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Repatriated Afghans have pledged to work for the strengthening of peace and development in the country at a time when peace has been established nation-wide.
As a result of past four decades of war and conflict, millions of Afghans have migrated to foreign countries and thousands of families have displaced from one location to another.
After the fall of the previous government on August 15, thousands of individuals who worked with foreigners, UN and media outlets were evacuated while some migrants were sent back from Turkey and Iran.
Toor Mohammad, a resident of Farah province, said his father was killed during the Soviet Union invasion of Afghanistan and his family migrated to Iran.
He was 12-year-old at that time and worked hard to earn money for survival, he was accustomed to hardships and difficulties.
He termed refugee life a difficult period of his life and said: “I prayed day and night for peace in the country. I spent 40 years in Iran but never felt comfortable there.”
He often touched his white beard and said: “Allah almighty accepted our prayers, but it is too late, I may not live for many years in peace but still I am happy that our country witnessed peace.”
“When I was returning to the country, most friends and colleagues urged me not to return to Afghanistan due to the fear of conflict and regime change, but I heard to my heart and did what I desired. “
“Upon entering Afghanistan’s soil, the Taliban who held the control of that area hugged me and welcomed me by kissing my forehead. They asked me and my family to join them in meal,” he said.
Abdul Wakeel, another resident of Farah, went to Canada 35 years ago. He said: “The main reason of our migration to Canada was conflict and bloodshed, now that peace and stability has returned, so we returned with happiness and joy.”
“People who left their country and migrated have painful stories, most of them went through difficult days and most were disappointed after they left their country,” he said.
He asked the government to provide people with jobs and honorable life and prevent injustice in society. He stressed the government should provide people with education facilities so that in the future they were not forced to migrate and leave their country.
