Kabul rally seeks release of frozen Afghanistan money
KABUL (Pajhwok): A number of people on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration in Kabul, asking the United States to lift sanctions on Afghanistan and release the country’s frozen assets as soon as possible.
About four months ago, when the republican system collapsed and the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, the United States froze about $10 billion of Afghanistan central bank.
The protestors in Kabul chanted anti-US slogans and the Afghans were in trouble because of US sanctions.
One of the protesters, Nazir Khan, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the United States should release the frozen money of Afghanistan as soon as possible.
He said if the United States did not release the assets of Afghanistan, they would continue their protests and extend the protests to all provinces.
He called on international humanitarian organizations to break their silence and stand by the Afghan people.
Another protester, Mohammad Kabir, said the United States should give Afghans their right as soon as possible. “Afghans are living in poverty and the world should release their frozen assets,” he added.
He said they would continue their protests until the United States and the international community released the frozen money of Afghanistan.
A number of other protesters made similar comments and issued a statement that called for the immediate release of the frozen assets of Afghans without any conditions because it was the right of the whole nation and not of any individual or group.
The resolution said that Afghans were facing problems than ever before and the world should not remain silent and should provide all possible assistance.
Similar protests have taken place in other provinces before and had demanded the release of Afghan money from the United States, but the United States has not yet stated its position on the issue.
