KABUL (Pajhwok): Bangladesh have creamed Afghanistan in the second one-day international by 88 runs, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Liton Das smashed 136 and Mushfiqur Rahim 86 to help their side post a massive 307-run total in Chattogram on Friday.
Bangladesh climbed atop the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League standings as a result of the 88-run triumph.
By virtue of the convincing win in the 10th game in the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League 2020-23, the Tigers took their point tally to 100 with a net run rate of 0.422.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement the hosts also went past England, who currently have the second slot with 95 points.
Liton hit 16 boundaries and two sixes in his 126-ball knock, as the Tigers set the visitors a 307-run target — their highest-ever total against Afghanistan.
For the tourists, Farid Ahmad captured two wickets while Rashid Khan and Fazal Haq Farooqi grabbed one each.
While chasing the mammoth total, the tourists were bowled out for 218 in 45.1 overs. Najibullah Zadran, who had made 67 in the first game, was once again the top scorer for Afghanistan with 54.
Opener Rahmat Shah chipped in with 52 and together they forged an 89-run stand for the fourth wicket.
Mohammad Nabi hit 32 and Rashid Khan made a quick-fire 29. But their contributions went up in smoke, just whittling down the margin of defeat.
Taskin Ahmad and Shakib Al Hasan took two wickets apiece, with Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Mehidy Hasan, Mahmudullah and Afif Hossain claiming one scalp each.
