KABUL (Pajhwok): The Taliban have once again urged the international community to recognise Afghanistan’s interim government.
Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Salam Hanafi issued the call during consultations on Afghanistan in Moscow on Wednesday.
A Russian media outlet quoted him as saying: “We call on the global fraternity to recognise the current government of Afghanistan.”
Hanafi added the Afghans, who had seen their first-ever inclusive government, hoped the world would cooperate with it.
Hanafi made clear Afghanistan’s isolation was in no one’s interests, something that was proven in the past.
“The current Afghan government has been able to safeguard every corner of the country for the first time after more than 40 years of war and devastation,” he asserted.
The deputy premier claimed Afghanistan could establish a political system with a clear hierarchy and a unity of command.
He insisted the situation in Afghanistan was stable and no threat would emanate from its territory to any country.
Hanafi went on to ask the Biden administration to unfreeze Da Afghanistan Bank’s reserves.
The more than nine billion dollars frozen by the US belonged to Afghans, who should not pay the price for political disagreements, he remarked.
