Pakistan seeks humanitarian aid for Afghans

KABUL (Pajhwok): Pakistan has commended the UN secretary-general’s role in mobilising humanitarian and economic assistance for the Afghan people.

At a meeting with Antonio Guterres in New York on Wednesday, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari shared Pakistan’s concern at the spillover of instability in Afghanistan.

The visiting foreign minister asked the international community to address the urgent humanitarian needs of the Afghans and arrest the collapse of Afghanistan’s economy.

On the situation in Ukraine, the minister appreciated the secretary-general’s efforts to promote a negotiated solution and shared Pakistan’s perspective.

He also lauded the UN chief’s commitment to combating Islamophobia and reaffirmed the resolve to work closely with him in this regard, including in Pakistan’s capacity as the current chair of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers.
