Iran wants Afghanistan’s assets unblocked

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): A top Iranian diplomat has called for the immediate release of Afghanistan’s reserves worth $9.5 million.

Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian issued the call while addressing the OIC foreign ministers’ meeting.

“It is necessary to release the assets as Afghanistan’s people are in dire need of urgent humanitarian assistance,” he told the session Islamabad on Sunday.

He believed the formation of a trust fund by OIC member states was necessary to help the Afghans.

Abdollahian urged the 57-member Islamic bloc to encourage the Taliban and other parties to form an inclusive government.
