Garwal takes up assignment at Afghan embassy in Moscow
KABUL (Pajhwok): The Taliban-appointed charge d’affaires has been accredited by the Russian Foreign Ministry, having already embarked on his diplomatic assignment.
Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday: “We have been developing our relations, including the work of the Afghan embassy in Moscow.”
In March, Jamal Nasir Garwal was named by the Taliban as Afghanistan’s charge d’affaires in Moscow. He is the first diplomat to have been appointed by the Taliban.
Earlier in the month, the Russian Foreign Ministry formally informed the Afghan embassy in Moscow of Garwal’s recognition as Afghanistan’s charge d’affaires in Moscow.
Meanwhile, Lavrov signaled his country’s openness to cooperation with the US on Afghan issues.
“We are open to cooperation with the US. There is a Troika which includes the US, Russia and China and there is an extended Troika where Pakistan is involved…”
