6.1 magnitude earthquake jolts parts of Afghanistan, Pakistan

KABUL (Pajhwok): An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 hit parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan in the early hours of Thursday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

According to Pajhwok Afghan News reporters, the earthquake happened at around 1:30 am when people were sleeping, the tremors were felt in Kabul, Ghazni, Maidan Wardak, Logar, Paktika, Paktia, Laghman and Nangarhar provinces.

Habibullah Zaheen, a social media user, wrote: “I felt the longest earthquake in my life, may Allah protect all Afghans.”

The USGS said the quake struck about 44 km (27 miles) from the city of Khost in southeastern Afghanistan and was at a depth of 51 km.

So far, there have been no immediate reports of damage or deaths.
