Pakistan sends 8 truckloads of aid to Afghanistan

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan on Thursday dispatched relief goods for earthquake victims in southeastern Afghanistan

The assistance was sent to the neighbouring country by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in compliance with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directives.

Eight trucks carrying tents, tarpaulin, blankets and medicine, are on their way to Afghanistan, which has been assured of full support by Pakistan.

More than 1,000 people were killed and over 600 others injured in Paktika and Khost provinces, where scores of houses were reduced to rubble.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s UN Ambassador Munir Akram urged the world to rise above political considerations and help Afghanistan.

In a message from the Pakistan Mission to the UN, he said: “The international community must come to the aid of Afghans, rising above political considerations.”

The diplomat added: “We were heartbroken to hear about the terrible earthquake in Afghanistan.”
