PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan has approved a request from the World Food Programme (WFP) for the purchase reservation of 120,000 metric tonnes of wheat for Afghanistan in 2022-23 on humanitarian grounds.
At a meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet accorded approval to the WFP request.
The Finance Ministry said the wheat would be purchased from the imported stocks of Pakistan Agricultural Storage & Services Corporation (PASSCO).
Chaired by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Miftah Ismail, the ECC meeting discussed the WFP wheat reservation summary, prepared by the Ministry of National Food Security & Research.
The amount of supplied wheat along with cost and incidentals would be charged in US dollars. The wheat flour would be supplied to Afghanistan by WFP, subject to relaxation of ban on flour exports to the extent of the instant proposal.
