KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan’s new rulers plan to organise a Loya Jirga to weigh in on the challenges facing the country.
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan spokesman says participants of the traditional grand assembly are yet to be named.
Zabiullah Mujahid was quoted as saying by a private broadcaster: “We haven’t named it yet, but a gathering of Afghans will be held on certain issues.”
According to TOLOnews, the move to arrange the jirga on finding solutions to the current Afghan problems comes after meetings in China.
The channel reported that Iran’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan Hassan Kazemi-Qomi recently indicated the Taliban would soon convene a Loya Jirga.
Ex-president Hamid Karzai, US Special Envoy Thomas West, the European Union and others have also suggested a tribal assembly on Afghanistan’s problems.
But the date and venue of the grand tribal assembly, which has a long history of meeting complex challenges in Afghanistan, is yet to be firmed up.
