DABS warns defaulters of final action if power bills not paid
KABUL (Pajhwok): Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) or power utility has once again called on all former government officials, politicians and powerful individuals to pay their outstanding electricity bills
DABS today issued a newsletter urging all former government defaulters, politicians and powerful figures to pay their arrears otherwise their fate will be decided by the cabinet.
“The leadership of DABS had already given politicians, powerful people and officials of the previous administration who default on power bills a month deadline during a press conference to pay their bills, but it seems that a large number of politicians, powerful figures and former officials have not paid their bills since last several years, they will lose the last chance for paying their bill,” the source said.
The power utility added that if these individuals did not pay their bills, they will be prosecuted according to a cabinet decision.
The cabinet earlier had directed DABS to prepare a plan to sell and rent the assets of defaulters who, despite DABS announcement, did not pay their arrears.
The power utility did not name the defaulters; but said that the figures owed millions in unpaid power bills for their houses and offices.
Earlier, DABS officials had said that its customers owed $62 million in power bills and politicians, former government officials, powerful figures, industrialists and traders were the main debtors.
