Aid Afghans without bias, Baradar tells world

KABUL (Pajhwok): A senior Taliban leader has called on the global fraternity to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.

Deputy Prime minister Abdul Ghani Baradar, in a video message on state0run media, asked the world to aid his country without political bias.

Faced with a looming humanitarian crisis, Afghans were going through a difficult time in the wake of recent snow and flooding, he said.

Widespread damage had resulted from avalanches and floods as a result of heavy rains and snowfall across Afghanistan.

More than half of Afghanistan’s 38 million people could face hunger this winter, international donors and UN agencies warn.

Many Afghans in different parts of the country were going without food, shelter, warm clothing and money, the deputy premier explained.

“The world should support the Afghans without any political bias and discharge its humanitarian obligations,” he added.

Baradar voiced Taliban’s readiness Taliban to help with the delivery of international assistance to the needy people, whose plight had been aggravated by the inclement weather.

In the video appeal on RTA, Baradar cited what he called oppressive sanctions and on lack of infrastructure in Afghanistan.
