PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The Gwadar Port in southwestern Balochistan province will be utilised for Afghan transit trade, officials say.
An agreement in this regard was signed between the Pak-Afghan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (PACCI) and the Gawadar Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI) on Friday.
A delegation of PACCI and leaders of the Karachi business community, headed by the chamber’s president Javed Barwani and Zubair Motiwala, visited Gwadar.
GCCI President Nagman Abdul and former head of the chamber Naveed Kalmati also attended the meeting.
Capt. Gul of Gwadar Port Authority and GDA’s Abdul Razaq Baloch briefed the delegates about the utilisation of the facility and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
In the coming days, the participants agreed, PACCI, importers and exporters from the two countries and Afghan transit trade would utilise the port.
Steps would be taken in consultation with the authorities concerned to make the port a trade and economic hub between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
In April 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, Pakistan had allowed the import of bulk food shipments through the port for transit to Afghanistan.
