All Afghan squad members test negative for Covid-19

KABUL (Pajhwok): All members of the Afghan cricket squad visiting Bangladesh have tested negative for the coronavirus, says a media report.

Eight Afghan cricketers and three members of the touring side’s support staff had tested positive for the virus on Tuesday, a day after their arrival in Bangladesh.

The result of Wednesday’s follow-up tests comes as a sigh of relief for the visitors and allows series to proceed as planned.

Cricbuzz, a cricket news website, quoted a Bangladesh Cricket Board official as saying: ”They are expected to have a practice match tomorrow.”

All members of the touring party had been found coronavirus-negative and were set to join the training camp, the BCB official confirmed.

Following its arrival in Dhaka on February 12, the 22-member Afghan squad moved to Sylhet a day later to take part in the camp.

At the completion of the training camp, the visitors will move to Chattogram, which will host all three ODIs at the Zahur Ahmed Cricket Stadium.

The ODI opener will be played on February 23. The second and the third ODI are penciled in for February 25 and 28.

The T20I matches will be played at the Sher-i-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka, on March 3 and March 5.

Veteran spinner Rashid Khan and all-rounder Mohammad Nabi, currently participating in the Pakistan Super League, will join the team ahead of the ODI series.
