Pakistan PM sees chance for peace in Afghanistan
PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): A chance of peace has emerged in Afghanistan following an end to decades of war, says the prime minister of Pakistan.
No nation had suffered as long as the people of Afghanistan, he said an interview with China Global Television Network aired on Tuesday.
For 40 years, Khan regretted, the Afghans had seen nothing but conflict. “This is the first time there is a chance for peace, because there is no conflict going on in Afghanistan.”
But the prospect of a huge humanitarian crisis posed a serious problem, explained Khan, who noted a halt to foreign aid after the Taliban takeover.
With international assistance and Afghanistan’s reserves frozen, the government on Kabul could not deliver basic services, he argued.
