Baghlan municipality starts arresting lease defaulters
PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): After Pajhwok Afghan News published an investigative report, the municipality of Pul-i-Khumri, capital of northern Baghlan province, has started detaining lease defaulters owing millions of afghanis to it.
Pajhwok Afghan News published the investigative report on December 5, that said 88.8 million afghanis were payable by 26 people to Pul-i-Khumri Municipality against leased properties since the last 18 years.
About 20 days after the report was released, Pul-i-Khumri Municipality officials, said that the municipality has submitted a list of nine defaulters to the police headquarters in order to recover the arrears.
Haji Haqmal, mayor of Pul-e-Khumri, said that after the publication of the Pajhwok report, efforts were being made to arrest the defaulters and recover the unpaid money from them.
He said efforts were also being made to auction properties of defaulting individuals who have been hiding from the municipality.
